Character Name: Nia Teppelin
Character Series: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Age: Unkown; appears to be around 14 years old
Background: Nia is a being, or 'doll', created by Lord Genome the Spiral King, and grew up away from the battles and hardship of the outside world. The only human she came into contact with was her 'father' the Spiral King; everyone else she interacted with were beastmen. She lived a peaceful life like this as a princess for many years. Nia's days were carefree, but also structured. She was always told where to go and what to do, and what was befitting of a princess. She would do anything to please her father, though, and always did as she was told. Her life was full of playing games with the beastmen, including Adiane who later became a general ((found out about that part in an interview with the director! :D)). She learned to speak as she did simply from imitation of other around her, and not through school, for there was no point in education for a princess. All she needed was to amuse her father and not ask any questions. She eventually began to question this existence of hers, however, and when she asked the Spiral King "Why was I made?", she was thrown out into the real world after being deemed useless.Such self-aware thoughts that were befitting of a doll.
After being thrown inside a box and tossed into a ditch, she was found an released by Simon. She joined Simon and the rest of the Great Gurren Brigade (a group of humans all fighting for humanity's freedom against the beastmen) after this, and found out from their enemy and her father's general Adiane that she had been abandoned. She still didn't understand why, however. Later, when the Great Gurren Brigade was held captive by General Guame's forces, Guame explained to Nia the true meaning of her identity as a doll. She, and all the other dolls he had created, existed only for Lord Genome's entertainment, and had become useless to him. She didn't let this keep her down, though, and decided that she would continue living on as herself, while at the same time encouraging Simon to keep living on as himself; Simon was able to break the Great Gurren Brigade free once he understood this. In the final showdown between The Great Gurren Brigade and Lord Genome's capital, Teppelin, Nia fought alongside Simon in hopes that she could confront her father one more time. She accused him of attacking humans and asked him why he waged this war. His answer was that he was the guardian of the human race, and that they should be grateful to him. He died without saying anything more to her. After his death, Nia said farewell, and that she would "head forward to tomorrow."
I will be roleplaying Nia from this point in the story. What is revealed later in the series, however, is that Nia's true identity is the Anti-Spiral's messenger; this may be hinted to during roleplay, but she will not be triggered and return to her true form until the limit of human life on the planet is reached. I don't think this will happen on Memento Eden. :D
Personality: Raised as a princess, Nia acts and speaks as such, but she never sounds arrogant. Rather, she's very curious about this world that she's never seen before outside of Teppelin. Her niaveness gives her a certain kind of wisdom, and she sees things as plain and simple, the solution obvious to her. She has a kind heart and an unwavering spirit, unable to stop believing in her friends and loved ones, including the father that abandoned her. Perhaps her cushy upbringing can be blamed for her inability to waver in the face of actual danger, but if she truly believes that injustice is at hand, she will stand firm and not move, small and fragile though she may be. Luckily, someone is usually there to save her or catch her from falling.
Nia is good at everything and anything, from sports to arts and crafts to holding-your-breath contests, possibly because she is a created human, or possibly because of her princess upbringing. But wait, scratch that-- There is one thing that she is terrible at, and it's cooking. Her cuisine has sent people to the hospital; still, there is only one person who's eaten her food and actually enjoyed it, and that's Simon. Whether this has to do with the potential of love in their relationship or the fact that Simon has an iron stomach, is up for anyone to decide.
